Job Title: Media and Communications Officer
Location: Abuja
Position Overview
- OHDI is seeking a creative, skilled, and motivated Media and Communications Officer to lead and support our growing communications portfolio.
- This role will focus on enhancing the organization’s visibility and engagement through strategic digital content creation, media engagement, and storytelling.
- The ideal candidate will play a central role in managing social media, developing multimedia content, writing and editing articles, and supporting the implementation of related communication activities.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Management:
- Manage and grow OHDI’s presence on platforms including Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube.
- Develop and maintain a monthly content calendar with engaging and timely content.
- Draft and schedule posts, monitor analytics, and engage with followers.
- Run digital campaigns to amplify OHDI’s work and reach target audiences.
Content Writing and Editorial Support:
- Draft articles, blog posts, press releases, donor updates, newsletters, and other communication materials.
- Edit and refine submissions for the One Health Insights Platform, ensuring high editorial quality, clarity, and consistency.
- Assist program teams in documenting success stories, project updates, and impact narratives.
Graphic Design and Multimedia Creation:
- Design engaging visual content (graphics, infographics, social media posts, flyers) using tools like Canva, Photoshop, or Illustrator.
- Edit short-form videos and reels for social media, events, and presentations using tools such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro.
- Create visual assets to support campaigns, reports, events, and donor engagement.
Website Management and Newsletter production:
- Assist with uploading and updating content on OHDI’s website and platforms, including the One Health Insights blog.
- Ensure all published materials are visually appealing, user-friendly, and aligned with brand guidelines.
- Lead the planning, content development, design, and distribution of OHDI’s regular newsletters to stakeholders, partners, and subscribers.
Communications Strategy and Brand Support:
- Contribute to the implementation of OHDI’s media and communications strategy.
- Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all platforms and communications.
- Monitor and evaluate media engagement metrics to inform improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, Public Health, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in media and communications (preferably in the nonprofit or development sector).
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Experience managing organizational social media accounts and digital campaigns.
- Proficiency in graphic design and video editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, etc.).
- Familiarity with website CMS tools such as WordPress is an asset.
- Experience with or interest in podcast production is strongly desired.
- Knowledge of or interest in One Health, global health, or sustainable development is a plus.

Remuneration
- The compensation for this role is competitive and will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, and the responsibilities of the position.
